Welcome to The Kings Arms
The Kings Arms Hotel in Temple Sowerby has a four hundred year history as a coaching inn, providing hospitality both to travellers on the old turnpike road and to early tourists – William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge chose the Kings Arms as a starting point for their exploration of the Lake District in 1799. In those days Temple Sowerby was known as “The Queen of Westmorland Villages”

Sadly, the business was neglected by its pub company owners and eventually closed in 2009. We acquired it later that year and set about a comprehensive restoration project providing a new kitchen, oak panelled dining room and spacious residents lounge whilst undertaking a complete upgrade of the bedrooms, adding new bathrooms and modern facilities. The Kings Arms is once again able to offer the weary traveller and the passing tourist a warm welcome and traditional hospitality in an informal and relaxed environment.

Situated right on the northern edge of Lake District National Park, and within easy reach of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Kings Arms is the perfect base for exploring England's spectacular north country.
