Welcome to The Kings Arms Hotel, Temple Sowerby, a four star inn offering bed and breakfast and full board in the Eden Valley close to Penrith.
The Kings Arms Hotel in Temple Sowerby has a four hundred year history beginning life as a coaching inn, providing hospitality both to travellers on the old turnpike road and to early tourists – William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge chose the Kings Arms as a starting point for their exploration of the Lake District in 1799. In those days Temple Sowerby was known as “The Queen of Westmorland Villages”
Heavy traffic - pre-bypass days - and the neglect of its pub company owners saw the Hotel suffer a decline and eventual closure in 2009. We acquired it later that year shortly after the bypass had been completed, and set about a comprehensive restoration project providing a new kitchen, oak panelled dining room and spacious residents lounge whilst undertaking a complete upgrade of the letting rooms adding new bathrooms and modern facilities to meet the demands of today. After twelve months of hard work The Kings Arms is once again able to offer the weary traveller and the passing tourist a warm welcome and traditional hospitality in an informal and relaxing environment.
